How hard is the water in your part of Ahmedabad?

In most of the city it leans hard, and how hard depends on what fills your tank. The corporation treats and pipes water drawn mainly from the Narmada canal and the Sabarmati, and even after treatment it still carries hardness minerals. Large peripheral and newer areas run on borewells and tankers instead, where tested wells commonly show TDS between 1,600 and over 2,000.

Which hard water filter in Ahmedabad suits your home?

The ppm figures are sizing guidance for the water going in, not a reduction claim. Homes reliably on AMC water fit the Municipal model. Any home that leans on a bore or tanker for part of the week should pick the Borewell/Tanker model, which adds an extra hardness layer to the cartridge.

One honest caution for Ahmedabad: some borewells test above 1,800 ppm TDS, beyond what either filter is rated for. Measure your bathroom tap first, and if it reads higher than that, talk to Care Dale before you order.

Bathroom filter or a whole-house water softener: which makes sense here?

For most flats, a water softener for bathroom in Ahmedabad means a screw-on filter, not a tank. A plumbed salt softener treats every outlet, but it needs space at the main inlet, a plumber, and salt for life. Renters in the newer townships rarely get permission for any of that.

• Shake a little liquid soap in a bottle of bathroom tap water. Thin lather and a milky layer mean hard water.
