It is designed to. The cartridge changes colour as it traps contaminants in your water. Contaminants like hard water chemicals, chlorine, sediments and other impurities. It turns from white to brown, so you can see what your cartridge has caught instead of guessing. The colour is the cartridge's built-in replacement indicator.

No. The brown is everything the cartridge caught before it could reach your skin and hair. It stays inside the cartridge and goes out with it when you replace it.

The colour-changing feature is an indicator of how much your cartridge has caught, and how bad your water quality is. Homes on harder water reach the three-month end, softer supplies last nearer six.

Yes. How fast the colour changes depends on what is in your water. Municipal water usually carries fewer contaminants than borewell or tanker water, so the cartridge changes colour more slowly. That is a good sign about your water. Replace it by six months either way.

Normal cartridges push water straight from top to bottom, so it passes through quickly. In the Care Dale cartridge, water enters from the sides and stays longer with the filter media. More time means better filtration.
