Hard water leaves a thin layer of minerals and soap residue on your skin that can feel tight, filmy or squeaky after your wash. What is hard water residue on skin?
It is a thin film of minerals and soap scum. Calcium and magnesium bind to the surfactants in soap and cleanser to form an insoluble residue, the same scum that coats taps and glass. How do you remove hard water residue from your skin?
Lift the film gently, then reseal the barrier. Harsh scrubbing only worsens dryness, so a mild routine works better. Do this over a few washes rather than all at once.
- Cleanse with a non-soap cleanser that's gently pH-balanced, leaving less scum than alkaline bar soap.
- Exfoliate lightly once or twice a week to lift build-up.

Why does the residue keep coming back?

Does hard water residue harm your skin?
